Evacuation


Responsibility did not begin in dreams

-but grew up there-

nor in the bed

with love as a lesson in utility,

But awake and attentive

for sight brings birth

its recognition

its ability to be known

to know

then duty comes

to handle

thought, emotion and evacuation.

    • Thanks. I wish the editors of various magazines/journals agreed with you. Also, the real genius of this particular poem is Yeats who influenced Delmore Schwartz who was then referenced by Frank O’Hara. I just came along and built off of their collective and superb poetic abilities.
